This key gives a complete chromatic range up to a³ for the tenor recorders, and to d³ for the alto.

The modern pitch tenor recorder can be fitted with a double bell key (operated by the left hand little finger)
giving a chromatic range of nearly 3 octaves (from b¹ to a³), and extra multiphonic possibilities.
